Application For Admission

Application Checklist

  • Complete this online Application for Admission along with the application fee: $50 domestic / $100 international.
  • Please note : You must complete and submit the entire application (including Student Questionaire and Student Essay) in one sitting as you will not be able to save a partially completed application and revisit it at another time.
  • Arrange for three (3) recommendations to be sent to our admissions office directly from your school. The recommendation forms are included in this packet. Two are for classroom teachers, and the third is for an administrator, which includes but is not limited to a counselor, principal, or head of school
  • Send an official transcript from your current school. The release form is included in this packet.
  • Submit results from the Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT). The Midland School SSAT code number is 5074. Students applying for the 11th grade may submit SSAT, PSAT, or SAT scores. Additionally, non-native English speaking applicants must submit results for the Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL). The Midland School TOEFL code number is 8802
  • Campus Visit / Interview. An interview with the Admissions Offic is a required part of the application. If a visit to campus is impossible, a telephone or Skype interview may be arranged.

The deadline for applying for financial aid is February 15. Midland School uses School and Student Services (SSS) a division of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) to process our financial aid applications. Applications for financial aid must be submitted online at sss.nais.org. Midland School’s SSS code is 5074.

That is why we ask parents for a frank statement about your child’s skills and weaknesses—academically, socially, and personally. Your insights will not only assist the committee in evaluating your child’s application, but will also help us to educate, guide, support, and encourage your son or daughter upon enrollment at Midland.

Student Essay

This essay is an opportunity for us to get to know you better, to understand what is important to you, and to appreciate how you will uniquely enrich our community. Please answer one (1) of the following questions in a three to four paragraph essay.

  1. Henry David Thoreau said, “If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away.” Describe a time when you dared to be different. How did this experience influence you as a person?
  2. Indicate a person in your life who has inspired you or influenced you. Describe his or her impact on your development as a person.
  3. Discuss an issue of personal, national or international concern. Why is this particular issue important to you? What do you think could or should be done about it?
  4. Describe a life experience in which you struggled or faced adversity. How did you respond to the situation?
