Dear Prospective Family, 

On this cool Thanksgiving morning, fireplaces are lit, warming our cabins and homes; faculty cover students’ jobs so that students can enjoy a sleep-in and connect with their families — one of the ways we show gratitude to the students for all they do to keep campus running daily. Meanwhile, the kitchen is abuzz, as Gloria, the kitchen team, and volunteers prepare all of our favorite Thanksgiving dishes.

Thanksgiving is a favorite tradition here at Midland as we bring our extended community to campus and sit in gratitude for each other and for this place. Curious what a typical Midland Thanksgiving looks like? Watch the video below. 

This year, we are unable to invite our beloved community and, instead, are enjoying a scaled-down version of our usual festivities. We spent the week preparing our campus for a meal together on the field, reckoning with the complex and challenging history of this holiday, and sending gratitude to our incredibly supportive alumni, friends, and families, all of whom we wish we could have with us today.

Still, a full day awaits: a Turkey Trot, hikes, our Gratitude Chapel, a movie night, and, of course, the most delicious of Thanksgiving feasts. The two of us will actually be joining Gloria and the kitchen team shortly to help carve the turkeys (only six 30-pounders this year, rather than our usual sixteen), but we first wanted to wish you a happy Thanksgiving.

In our Thanksgiving video (above), Kevin, a former Midland parent, says it better than we could: “There’s no strangers here; there’s family here. And that’s what makes it special.” We hope that your family will join ours for future Thanksgivings, joining us in gratitude for good food, exciting entertainment, and the best community we could ask for.
